Meet the Founder

My name is Gerard, and I am the founder of Cavalls de Calma.

I was born and raised in the wonderful city of Barcelona. Even though I loved my city, I remember that when the long-awaited summer holidays arrived, my heart beat with a special excitement. It wasn’t just the joy of leaving school behind, but the promise of returning to a magical place: my grandparents’ apartment, nestled in the woods of the Montseny Natural Park.

There, in close contact with nature, I discovered freedom in its purest form. Every morning, the sun woke me up to a day full of adventures with my friends. We would head out into the forest, ride for miles on our bikes, and swim in the river under the blue sky. Only the setting sun reminded us that it was time to go home, where dinner was waiting.

In that corner of the world, I forged a deep connection with nature. I didn’t just admire it; I felt it with every fiber of my being. The power and serenity that emanated from the environment filled me with awe and gratitude. And although life eventually led me down other paths, that passion for nature never left me.

I graduated with a degree in Communication Sciences from Ramon Llull University in Barcelona. I began my professional career as a advertising creative in various agencies, both in Spain and the United Kingdom. For years, I immersed myself in the high-pressure and competitive corporate world. I served as a director of communications and events for several companies, leading large teams and organizing events of major economic and social significance. During this period, I trained as a coach under Raimón Samsó and Carlos Melero. Their valuable lessons were highly useful when it came to inspiring and coordinating people. However, inside me, the yearning to return to nature and feel that vital connection again never disappeared.

In an effort to maintain that connection, I began riding horses. These wonderful animals had always fascinated me. Horseback riding became my way of channeling that bond with nature that I valued so much. Every time I was on a horse, I felt as though I were entering a silent dialogue with the earth—one where trust and mutual respect were fundamental. For me, horses represented not only a link to the natural world, but also an inexhaustible source of learning and personal transformation.

Years later, amidst the uncertainty brought about by the COVID pandemic, I began a deep reflection on my life. Did I want to continue in the corporate world? Was that my true life purpose? The security I clung to could no longer be an excuse to postpone my dreams. It was then that I embarked on my most personal project: Cavalls de Calma.

Cavalls de Calma was born from a profound act of faith, a leap into the unknown where I left behind everything familiar to follow the calling of my heart. I listened to my inner child, who encouraged me to leave it all behind and embrace the uncertain, trusting that this new path would lead me to find my purpose. Thus, with the courage that arises from the deepest part of the soul, I set out to create a space where the connection with horses and nature becomes a journey of personal transformation.

The main purpose of Cavalls de Calma is to be a gateway to a world where nature and horses intertwine to offer a deep experience of reconnection. In this haven of peace, I invite others to experience what I personally went through: the beauty of losing oneself in nature, the joy of discovering stillness in the wild, and the magic of connecting with these wonderful animals, who, with their nobility and sensitivity, guide us toward a deeper understanding of life and human nature.

Over the years, I have studied and explored the therapeutic and emotional impact of horses on people. I have also completed certifications as a Sports Technician in Equitation, an Animal Welfare Technician, an Equestrian Guide in the Natural Environment, and an Equine Therapy Instructor. I have had the privilege of training alongside renowned professionals such as Buck Brannaman, Lucy Rees, Óscar Scarpati, Mario Soriano, or Juan Araquistain. The deep study of horses has confirmed something I had already experienced personally: that these incredible animals are true catalysts for change and growth.
